How to Find & Claim Unclaimed Bank Deposits Online (UDGAM)

Overview

The UDGAM (Unclaimed Deposits - Gateway to Access inforMation) portal is a centralized search engine launched by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Over ₹35,000 crore is currently lying forgotten in dead bank accounts across India. Instead of visiting different banks one by one, citizens can use this single portal to search across all major banks (like SBI, HDFC, PNB, ICICI) to see if they, or their deceased family members, left behind any unclaimed savings accounts or fixed deposits. Pro Tips for a Seamless Experience: * When searching for a deceased family member’s money, try multiple spellings of their name. Old bank records often have spelling mistakes. You do not claim the money directly on the portal. The portal only tells you which bank holds the money and the exact account number. You must then visit that specific bank branch to withdraw it. Keep the PAN card, Voter ID, or Date of Birth handy for the person you are searching for, as you need at least one extra piece of proof to run the search. Processing Timeline: Search Results: Instant Money Withdrawal: Depends on the specific bank branch's process (usually 7 to 15 days after submitting claim forms at the branch) Fee Structure 2026: Portal Registration and Search: FREE Common Rejection Reasons: Entering the wrong PAN or Voter ID details during the search Not trying alternative spellings for older relatives' names
