Overview (Iske Baare Mein)

The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a flagship scheme under the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign. It is designed to encourage parents to build a fund for the future education and marriage expenses of their female child. It currently offers one of the highest tax-free interest rates (8.2% per annum) among all small savings schemes. Deposits can be made up to ₹1.5 lakh per year, which is fully exempt from tax under Section 80C.

Who is Eligible? (Kaun Apply Kar Sakta Hai?)

  • Girl child must be below 10 years of age.
  • Only one account can be opened per girl child.
  • A family can open a maximum of two accounts (one for each girl child).

Documents Required (Zaroori Dastavez)

  • Birth Certificate of the girl child
  • Identity proof of parent/guardian (Aadhaar, PAN)
  • Address proof of parent/guardian

How to Apply (Form Kaise Bhare)

  1. 1Visit any participating commercial bank or the nearest post office.
  2. 2Collect and fill out the Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA-1) form.
  3. 3Attach the birth certificate of the girl child and your KYC documents.
  4. 4Make the initial deposit (minimum ₹250).
  5. 5Collect the SSY passbook once the account is opened.
