Overview
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), launched in 2016, aims to provide deposit-free LPG connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households, safeguarding their health from smoke inhalation. The scheme has delivered 10.34 crore connections by 2026, with Phase 2 extending benefits to forward caste women and migrant households.
Each beneficiary receives one free LPG connection with the first subsidized refill, plus a pressure regulator, safety hose, and pamphlet. Phase 2 offers 12 subsidized refills annually at ₹200 discount each. The program targets smoke-free kitchens, reducing health costs by 80% for women and children while promoting clean energy transition. Aadhaar authentication ensures transparent delivery through 75,000+ distributors nationwide.
Who is Eligible?
- Adult woman as head of BPL family (SECC 2011 list)
- No existing LPG connection in household name
- SC/ST/obc/women-headed households priority
- Phase 2: Forward caste BPL women also eligible
- Migrant households without permanent address
